Everyday Inclusion 2022: Connection and Belonging

Finance and Administration (VPFA) Everyday Inclusion August 2022 - Ducks for Everyday Inclusion circle logo with trees

The fifth iteration of the annual month-long Finance and Administration inclusion initiative was held in August 2022. The theme for 2022 was Everyday Inclusion: Belonging and Connection. The month-long initiative brought together the 700+ employees in the Finance and Administration division to connect with each other and improve our sense of belonging in the workplace. While we are constantly reflecting on and trying to counter our implicit biases, Everyday Inclusion offers the opportunity to spend focused time exploring resources, reflecting individually, attending cross-division workshops, and engaging in department-level activities to help us learn about ourselves and each other while questioning our assumptions and connecting with our colleagues.

"Everyday Inclusion is a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on the changes we’ve all experienced in the last year and consider the ways we’ve experienced connection in our varied work environments. As we enter the post-pandemic era, fostering a culture that allows us all to bring our whole selves to our work is more important now than ever before. I invite you to take advantage of the opportunities presented throughout Everyday Inclusion this August to learn and interact with colleagues while exploring the many facets of connection and belonging." Jamie Moffitt, VPFA/CFO

Ways employees got involved

  1. Completed an online commitment survey in English or Spanish. Ducks for Everyday Inclusion sticker on a blue travel cup with Weekly Challenges flyer in the background
  2. Participated in activities with work teams. These were led led by team supervisors or members of the VPFA diversity committee during August.
  3. Tried some of the weekly challenges--these were emailed to all VPFA staff at the beginning of each week in August.
  4. Attended one or more of the activities hosted by the VPFA diversity committee. There were virtual and in-person options throughout August--see the list of options below.
  5. Contributed to the Foods That Connect Us initiative. We gathered recipes and stories of the foods that connect us to special people, places, and times in our lives. If you have something you want included, send your recipe and a few lines about why the food is important to you to: Debbie Sharp at dsharp@uoregon.edu.
  6. Used the resources on connection and belonging (people come back to these resources when they have time throughout the year).

Everyone who participated in Everyday Inclusion 2022 received a sticker. If you haven't received yours yet, email dsharp@uoregon.edu to get that sorted out!

WEEKLY CHALLENGES 2022

The weekly challenges are sent out to every member of the VPFA division at the beginning of each week in August. The challenges will be made available online here after they are shared via email.
