What area do you work in within the VPFA portfolio?
I work in Work Control which is part of the Facilities Services portion of Campus Planning & Facilities Management.
What is your current position, and what are your job responsibilities?
I am a Work Control Program Assistant. Work Control does many different things, but our main responsibility is to support, monitor, and evaluate all campus facilities work requests to ensure immediate and appropriate responses and assignment of work and resources. My elevator spiel about the job is that basically we are the contacts for anything that breaks or goes wrong on campus. When something happens, we figure out how to fund it and who to send to fix it.
What has been your career path; how did you end up in your current position?
I’ve worked in some capacity of customer service since I first started working. I started in retail, moved on to the service industry and hospitality, and ended up managing a visitor center on Catalina Island for three years before my partner and I moved to Eugene. Now I am able to utilize all those customer service skills in Work Control.
What do you like about your current position?
I love that the job in Work Control allows me to meet and talk to people all across campus. I love that I’m able to build amicable relationships with different people. I know people from just about every department on campus, and there are a significant number of departments across the UO.
What advice do you have for others; what secrets would you share for someone thinking of applying to the UO?
If someone is thinking of applying to UO, I’d urge them to not be discouraged if it takes a while to get hired. I applied to 32 different positions at UO before I landed mine!
Share a little about yourself personally:
- Family: My partner and I have two dogs and a cat that we absolutely adore and dote on.
- Favorite food: I love Indian food and my favorite has to be masala dosas.
- Best movie you’ve seen: I would highly recommend watching Crip Camp on Netflix. It’s a documentary about a revolutionary summer camp for disabled teens that helped spark the disability rights movement. An alumnus from UO worked on the marketing for the film!
How do you want to be remembered?
I hope to be remembered as a kind, caring, and helpful person.
