What area do you work in within the VPFA portfolio?
I work in Campus Planning and Facilities Management.
What is your current position, and what are your job responsibilities?
I am the lead Work Control Program Assistant in Facilities. Our department is called Work Control Center and we interact with peer departments, the campus community, plus city and county offices. We take customer requests and create work tickets, relay information to our crews, communicate about outages or advisories, provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather, and strive to provide the best customer service possible.
What has been your career path; how did you end up in your current position?
I worked as an admin assistant for a trucking company before taking a few years off to raise two small children. After that, I started working for a water well drilling company and stayed there 20 years. During this time, I also worked for a while as a part-time tour bus guide, primarily for locations within our state. When the drilling company shut down, I took care of some family members before landing my job with the university, over six years ago.
What do you like about your current position?
Really enjoy getting to work with our crews and the campus community. I am grateful for the team I get to be a part of and view them as my work family. The job is fascinating and you just never know what kind of call you will receive. I like the problem solving challenge and seeing things through to the correct party to resolve the issue. Every once in a while you get entertaining communications about things like a bat in a box in the bathroom, people's encounters with attacking toilet paper dispensers, or randomly thrown whipped cream pies.
Share a little about yourself personally:
I’ve been happily married to my husband for 33 years. We have two adult children and three grandkids. A year ago, we adopted two senior dogs from Greenhill that had been recently dropped off. These small white dogs were sisters and Greenhill didn’t want them separated. They will be turning 16 in May, and they still have their moments where you see the playful puppy in them. I also enjoy writing and am currently working on a couple of children’s fantasy books and a play. Nothing is published yet, but will be down the road.
How do you want to be remembered?
I hope to be remembered as someone who listened, who cared, and made a positive difference in the lives of others.
