Recruitment Specialist

What area do you work in within the VPFA portfolio?
Human Resources - Talent Acquisition

What is your current position, and what are your job responsibilities?
I work as a Recruitment Specialist. In this role, I support the university’s recruitment and hiring efforts. One of my key responsibilities is to provide customer service and day-to-day operational support to the team, candidates, and campus partners. I also provide technical guidance to hiring authorities and unit-based HR partners about recruitment processes and systems. Some of the tasks include conducting research, preparing and monitoring reports, compiling data, creating visual data representations, and updating search records and online instructions. In addition, I also oversee the completion of temporary employee hiring.

What has been your career path; how did you end up in your current position?
I am a UO alumnus; I studied Multidisciplinary Science with a concentration in Computer Science and Math. I worked in various positions as a student employee throughout my college journey, which helped me gain transferable skills and lifelong connections. I think a big part of the reason I ended up in my current position is because of the UOAdmin Internship Program managed within the Finance and Administration portfolio. As a part of the internship program, I had a chance to collaborate with the HR Talent Acquisition team and develop tools/resources that their HR Partners across campus can use whenever they launch a new search. It was that experience which made me want to work in HR in the long run. Once I was done with school, I was fortunate to become part of this wonderful team and I am excited about what the future brings!

What do you like about your current position?
I love working with people and data, doing research, and finding patterns and trends. Each day at work looks very different and in the process, I get to learn something new on a regular basis. I understand the impact people can have in HR, particularly in Talent Acquisition, because one great hire can change the entire direction of the whole department or the organization, and knowing that you could potentially be a part of that is rewarding. In recruiting, we have people on both sides of our business; I like that I get to interact and help our campus partners within and outside of Human Resources, as well as job seekers and applicants. This is what excites me every day.

What advice do you have for others; what secrets would you share for someone thinking of applying to the UO?
I think the best advice, in general, is to carefully review the posted minimum qualifications and ensure that your skills and experience that apply to these (as well as any other listed professional competencies or preferred qualifications) are clearly reflected in your application materials, such as a resume or cover letter, etc. The UO takes these seriously, and it always helps to make sure the search committee will be able to see the story of how you meet their criteria as clearly as possible. I would also recommend applying by the application review deadline to ensure full consideration.

Share a little about yourself personally.

  • Best movie you’ve seen - I had a really difficult time picking one but I think will go with Three Idiots (Bollywood).

If you could only take three items with you to a deserted island, what would they be?
