Lead HR Specialist

What area do you work in within the VPFA portfolio?
Human Resources, HR Service Center

What is your current position; and what are your job responsibilities?
I am the Lead HR Specialist. In this position, my primary responsibilities involve:
- assisting the HR Service Center Manager with the everyday coordination of the center
- supporting the Leaves Coordinator in all processes regarding protected medical leaves, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA)
- managing the staff tuition benefit

What is your work history and education that enabled you to attain your current position?
I started my career coordinating programs and events for a community center.  After five years, I took an opportunity working for the Spruce Goose Winery in the Evergreen Air Museum where I was the Assistant Manager and Director of Tasting Room Events.  After Evergreen, I went back to school for an MBA (Masters of Business Administration). I handled many areas of HR working for the winery, and after a few HR-focused courses during my MBA program, I knew that HR was where I wanted to be. A job at the University of Oregon provided me with the opportunity to begin working in HR as a member of the Service Center team.  Over the past five years, I have grown in my role and love that I have been able to be involved in so many different areas of HR.
