Alex Milshtein

Office Specialist

Role in the VPFA portfolio
Alex works for the University of Oregon Transportation Services department.

Current position and job responsibilities
Alex serves an important role within Transportation Services as part of the department’s front office team. In his position as Office Specialist, Alex helps customers with access to our parking garage, citation appeals, permit sales, and much more. Alex is a proven problem solver, has an aptitude for technical work, and was instrumental to the department’s launch of its new parking management software system this past spring. As COVID-19 quickly changed the campus operations across campus, Alex helped the Transportation Services team adapt rapidly to this new environment and offer virtual parking permits. Alex continues to help the department manage the back-end operations of its online permit portal and adapt to customers’ service needs.

Career Path at UO
Alex was originally welcomed to Transportation Services as a student employee at the front customer desk helping walk-in customers. While working, Alex earned his bachelor’s degree in history and political science with a minor in comics and cartoon studies. As a student, his interests went beyond these degree boundaries as he expanded his creative talents as a comedian and artist and founded a campus magazine – Art Ducko. His entrepreneurial spirit helped grow the magazine as he collaborated with the ASUO for additional funding.

Alex’s hunger for increased responsibility and professional growth continues to be noticed and appreciated within the department. After starting out at the front desk, he continually asked for more work opportunities. When a full-time position opened up as a kiosk attendant in the 13th avenue garage, Alex proved to be the right fit. Later, when additional help in the office was needed, Alex quickly spoke up and offered to help. As the department’s operational needs have continued to evolve, Alex received a well-earned promotion this past year to a full-time Office Specialist position and continues to excel in this role!
